Underwriting Assistant

Underwriting Assistant Basic Purpose To assist underwriters in processing of risks for insurance that meet the company's established underwriting guidelines. This position provides support to the underwriting department; including but not limited to quoting and issuing new business, making changes to existing policies, and performing miscellaneous tasks to support the underwriting department. Job Description
  • Review and issue New Business; comparing approved quote to application and documentation in file, to identify any errors or omissions and ensure policy is issued accurately.
  • Review renewal policies to ensure risk continues to meet company guidelines; perform basic underwriting, send out renewal letters, contact with agents to request any needed information.
  • Process endorsement requests and mortgagee changes.
  • Provide timely and courteous responses to agents and policyholders.
  • Order and review miscellaneous reports needed for underwriting, such as credit checks and property inspections.
  • Process return mail.
  • Meet and maintain company standards for accuracy and productivity.
  • Assist underwriters and supervisor in other assigned projects and administrative tasks.
Qualifications
  • College education or high school diploma or GED with relevant work experience
  • Strong computer skills and advanced experience with Microsoft Office
  • Solid analytical and math skills
  • Solid verbal and communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Ability to work and think independently while also collaborating with team members as needed
  • Prior underwriting or insurance experience is preferred
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and a desire to assist
  • Excellent research, time management and problem-solving skills

Underwriter

Although many risks are similar, no two are the same.  For this reason, we work closely with our agency partners to underwrite each risk on its own merits. We are seeking individuals who can use good solid judgment and knowledge of our products to create solutions to help both agents and insureds. Windsor-Mount Joy is growing, and we are seeking individuals who have the ability to actively listen and use judgment by understanding the needs of the insured as well as hazards associated with any risk to ensure needs are being met and to ensure future profitability of the company.

Job Description

  • Help find solutions for agents by reviewing new business inquiries.
  • Develop strong relationships with agency partners by providing timely support on company’s products and systems.
  • Review and make recommendations on new and existing business to ensure continued profitability.
  • Communicate solutions, underwriting decisions and coverage interpretations with agency partners.
  • Work collaborative with team on other tasks associated with marketing, loss control, claims, and product development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with background in insurance or more than three years in the insurance industry

Position Summary

The full-time Accountant will work with the Accounting Department by providing support to the production of corporate financial statements, to the accounts payable and to the accounts receivable. This position also responds to external customer inquiries according to company policy and procedure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provide support to the production of financial statements
  • Provide support including answering phones, making copies, data entry and general correspondence

  • On a daily basis, enter data in company's database related to accounts receivable and accounts payable

  • Interact daily with employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements :

  • Associates Degree in Accounting
  • Solid analytical and math skills
  • Solid verbal and communications skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook in a business setting
  • Proficiency using QuickBooks
  • Ability to work well with others in an office environment
  • Two or more years of accounting experience is a plus

Claims Staff/Administrative Assistant

Claims Staff/Administrative Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
  • Entry and set up of new claims.
  • Answering phones/transfer calls.
  • Assist customers with claim inquiries.
  • Answer general claims questions.
  • Learning industry terminology and the “language of claims”.
  • Assist Claims Manager with tasks.
  • This position would provide great opportunity for future advancement into a Claims Adjuster position.
Qualifications
  • High School or equivalent education.
  • Experience in or aptitude for customer service.
  • Knowledge of or aptitude to learn basic Property & Casualty insurance terminology.
  • Proficiency in keyboard and data entry and work effectively with computer system.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently.

  • Ability to use logic, reasoning and diplomacy in a demanding environment.

  • Willing to obtain license for independent adjuster when on board with company if opportunity arises to move into a Claims Adjuster position

Claims Adjuster

Claims Adjuster Duties and Responsibilities
  • Investigate, evaluate, and settle insurance claims. Working with independent adjusters.
  • Assist customers with claim inquiries.
  • Determine whether the insurance policy covers the loss claimed.
  • Decide the appropriate amount the insurance company should pay.
  • Issue payment to insureds/vendors with prior management approval.
  • Ensure that claims are not fraudulent.
  • Document file for review by Claims Manager.
Qualifications
  • High School or equivalent education.
  • Experience in or aptitude for customer service.
  • Knowledge of or aptitude to learn basic Property & Casualty insurance terminology.
  • Proficiency in keyboard and data entry and work effectively with computer system.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently.
  • Effective communication skills
